During the fall, we may come across a few rain showers that may lead to flooding. If you live in an area that floods often, you probably know the tricks to drive through a flood. The number one trick is don’t. Things often go wrong when trying to drive through flooding waters and risking your safety is not an option for us. This week, we have your guide on what to do when flood waters are rising and how to avoid potentially dangerous situations.

You should always try to avoid driving through a flood for numerous reasons. Moving water can easily sweep your vehicle off the road or even worse, flip your vehicle upside down. Flooded areas are often times deeper than what they may appear to be. Steering clear of flooded areas will help keep you out of harm’s way and will not leave you stranded.

Standing water should also be a no-no. Same as above, standing water can be misjudged and can lead to a dangerous situation if you try to drive through a “puddle” that is a lot deeper than originally thought. If you are forced to drive through standing water, try to get onto as much land as you can, let other vehicles pass by you first, drive slow and steadily to ensure you are not creating a bow wave. Once you’ve safely made it through, test your brakes to ensure that they are properly working.

Go slow. When passing through any size of water on the roadway, go slow and take your time. Driving through water at fast speeds can potentially lead to a collision. You may lose contact with the road or lose steering control if you don’t take your time and go slow. To avoid this, slow down and if you feel yourself losing control, hold the steering wheel steady and slowly lift off your gas pedal until your tires regain contact with the roadway.

Keep an eye out for hazards that may create dangerous situations. Look for manhole covers that can get lifted and moved in a flood, curbs can get lost and can do damage to wheels and tires if hit. Also, assume that water is contaminated and you may come across debris or harmful substances.

Be alert and stay safe.

The summer is quickly coming to an end, there I said it. I know, I know you are sad that your nights by the pool and weekends at the lake or the beach will soon be a thing of the past. But, it is important to get your Kia in tip-top shape for the upcoming seasons. We have compiled a list of fall car care tips to make it easier to decide which services are the most important for you to perform before temperatures begin to drop. Check them out below!

  • Have your battery tested to be sure that it is in good health. Extreme temperatures can do a lot of damage to your battery and can leave you stranded if you’re power up.
  • Check the tread and PSI of your tires.
  • Brake fluid and your brake pads should be in good shape. If you’re having difficulty stopping or hear any squeaking, consult a technician as soon as possible.
  • Check all fluids to ensure they are reading at proper levels. If not, fill them up or schedule an appointment and our technicians will top off your fluids!
  • Your HVAC system should be checked before seasons are changing especially if heating or cooling in your vehicle has been a problem in the past. This system is critical for a number of safety reasons and you should never fool around with it.
  • Show your lights a little TLC. Whether you are swapping out bulbs or replacing a dimming headlight altogether, give your head and taillights the proper attention. Especially in fall months.
  • Fill up your windshield washer fluid reservoir with a cold-weather washer fluid that won’t freeze your windshield if cold temperatures sneak up.
  • Making your vehicle’s health a top priority will better your gas mileage by an average of four percent.

Fall is here, can you feel it? We sure can and we want to help you get your ride ready for the changing seasons. Stop in to see us today or schedule your appointment with us online! Our trained technicians are happy to answer any questions or get your Kia geared-up and ready for the fall!

Just like going to the doctor, it’s important for your Kia to see a doctor, as well. Okay, maybe we’re not a real doctor but our trained technicians are basically car doctors. This week we want to share with you why it is so important to regularly service your vehicle. Follow along below and we hope to convince you that regular service is important if you’re one of those people that skip out on servicing your ride!

Ensure your safety

  • Regularly servicing your vehicle will increase yours, your families, and others safety while they are out on the road. While there are many reasons for automotive collisions, neglect is a cause for concern. Faulty steering and braking systems, improper fluid levels, worn windshield wipers, worn tires, and other vehicle-related neglect can cause a fatal accident.

Prevent vehicle malfunctions

  • Being stranded on the side of the road isn’t exactly how you want to find out that something is wrong with your vehicle. If you choose not to regularly service your vehicle, you run the risk of breaking down on the side of the road while repairs and tow costs will be hefty.

Increase performance and fuel efficiency

  • When your fluid levels are at the proper levels, internal wear on your vehicle decreases and vehicle performance will increase. Not only will your ride provide you with smoother, more responsive ride but your vehicle will drive as it was intended. Tune-ups and oil changes will also increase your fuel efficiency which means you’ll spend less time at the pump!

Increased resale value

  • Not only should you want to keep your Kia in great shape for your own safety, when it comes time to sell or trade-in it will be worth much more than a vehicle that hasn’t been treated with the same TLC. Regular service + more money on resale = happy you! This also creates a maintenance record which will prove that you regularly serviced and will ultimately help you sell your vehicle in the end.

Peace of mind

  • Regularly servicing your vehicle will give you peace of mind knowing that there are no major issues currently happening or waiting to blow up in your face. Plus, you’ll be safe, less stressed, and your wallet won’t be hurting from expensive repairs.

We have all seen that tiny button on out dashboard, you know the one I’m talking about the red triangles, the one we never seem to need. Yeah, that one! Well, it’s not uncommon to know that this is your hazard button, but some people don’t know and that’s why I’m here, to drop some knowledge on you guys! The scientific definition for your hazards is that Hazard warning lights are a pair of intermittent flashing indicator lights that flash in unison to warn other drivers that the vehicle is a temporary obstruction. Aka they are those orangey-yellow lights that flash on and off when you or someone else is parked on the side of the road…see, knowledge! So where am I going with this…well hazards are not something you use in your everyday routine so I thought why not brush up on hazards so when you do need to use them you’ll be golden!
What are hazard lights?

  • Flashing lights used to bring attention to your vehicle for various reasons
  • They are also called hazard flashers and hazard lights
  • They are usually activated by pressing a button on the dashboard that looks like a red triangle
  • Some cars might even active the hazards automatically in a crash

When Should You Use Hazards?

  • They are to warn other road users that you are a temporary hazard
  • If you have broken down on the side of the road, you are changing a tire, or you are being towed

When Shouldn’t You Use Hazards?

  • When driving in traffic
  • They should not be used when have parked illegally
  • Leaving your hazards on while driving is unsafe because it overrides all other directions, like turn signals

Did you know that servicing your vehicle in the summer is just as important as servicing your vehicle at any other time of the year? Perhaps you didn’t and that’s alright. But, we’re here to tell you that it is important and why you’ll want to start servicing your vehicle before summer temperatures rise to extreme levels. Take a look below and follow up with scheduling an appointment with our service department to get your Kia in tip-top shape this summer!

Here’s what to look for:

  • The air conditioner is not working properly
  • Windshield wipers are bad, streaking, making noise
  • Coolant system needs TLC
  • Tires are in poor condition

Why you’ll want to get your vehicle serviced:

  • If your A/C is not blowing cold air it is time to see a professional mechanic for some help. Often times, this is caused by a crack within the A/C system which is causing the refrigerant to leak out of your system. Your air filter could also be clogged which is leading to not enough air intake. Also, ask to have your engine’s belts looked over. You can even check these things yourself from the convenience of your own driveway.

  • Many people forget about their windshield wipers in the summer months but this is when a lot of damage can take place. UV rays from the sun, paired with dust and other debris can do major damage to your wipers. Look them over each time you fill up your tank and gently wipe them down with a wet paper towel about twice a month. Don’t forget to fill up with windshield washer fluid, too!
  • Your coolant system is one of the most important components to take care of when the summer heat starts to rise. Not only should your coolant reservoir be filled to the proper level but your system should be in proper working condition. Hoses in your system should NEVER be squishy or cracked. NEVER work on a hot engine, wait for your engine to cool before popping open the hood.
  • It is very common for tires to perform poorly when temperatures start to rise. Be sure to keep an eye on them and look for any signs of deflation. If you have tried to fill them up and the result is the same, it may be time for a set of new tires. Also, look for any issues with the tread. Summertime is known for being road trip season, make sure your tires are in great shape before you head out onto the open road!
