King Kia’s Tips For Keeping Your Ride Warm: Park in the garage When it gets bone-chilling outside, it’s important to keep your ride warm. Parking in your garage or even a covered space will help keep your vehicle a few degrees warmer and will help shield your ride from the elements. Invest in a remote start system Before heading out into the cold, start your vehicle about 10 to 15 minutes before you’re ready to hit the road. This will help get your engine warmed up while you finish getting ready for the day! Check for antifreeze in your radiator Running on just water inside your radiator can cause your engine to freeze which means it could take longer to warm up. If you use antifreeze inside your radiator, your vehicle is likely to warm up faster and defrost your frozen toes! Install a block heater on your engine This is typically the fastest way to heat up a chilled engine and help warm up the cabin of your vehicle. A block heater has been known to work better with engine components and has less wear in the long run. Heated seating Most vehicles now offer heated seats as either a standard or add on option, we encourage you to invest and keep your backside warm on the chilly days you may encounter!

Well, if it’s been a while and you’re planning on heading into chilly temperatures this holiday season, this week’s blog will be a benefit to you! We encourage you to take a look at those tips below and be sure to put them to good use this winter. We want you and your passengers to stay safe so please use them! King Kia Gaithersburg’s Fall/Winter Driving Tips: Be alert and allow more distance between your vehicle and others. Use your brakes carefully.  Brake early and carefully as it takes more time and distance to stop in adverse conditions. Don’t use “cruise control” in wintry conditions. Be courteous to other drivers. Keep to the right except to pass, using turn signals to alert other drivers of your intentions. Always buckle your seat belt and require your passengers to do the same. Reduce speeds. Remember that the posted speed limit is for ideal travel conditions. Allow for extra travel time or consider delaying trips if the weather is inclement. Don’t use your hand-held cell phone while driving, as mandated by law. Use your headlights, as required by law.

With the onset of winter and freezing, unnaturally cold weather that makes us wonder why we live in places where the air hurts our faces, we also encounter things from time to time that include frozen windshields in the morning and sticky icy doors on our cars. It’s easy to take care of this, but sometimes you might be tempted to scrape with something out of the ordinary, and that could cost you your car’s paint job and cause scratches on your windshield, or worse. Keep reading to find out the best ways to de-ice in a flash without causing a scratch! First of all, invest in a good plastic scraper. These are inexpensive and can live unobtrusively in your car forever. Use this on your windshield in conjunction with your defroster and you’ll be great to go. Second, you can make a solution for defrosting your windshield out of one part rubbing alcohol, two parts water, and a spray bottle. Mix this up, and if you go outside in the morning and see that your windshield is frosted over, spray a little of this on. Run your wipers after a minute and see the frost literally melt away! Third, if your doors and locks are frozen, pour a little cold water on them. Hot will just freeze again and ruin your life even more, but cold water will help to unfreeze your lock and let you into your car easily. Winter doesn’t have to be a life ruiner! You got this.
