Temperatures are dropping. Winter weather is headed our way and with all the holiday travel ahead of you, now is the perfect time to get your vehicle ready for all that is heading our way this holiday season. We encourage you to take some time to check out our winter car care tips and put them to good use this December. Swap out regular tires for winter tires. Snow or not, when temperatures fall below 45 degrees, winter tires are recommended. They're made to give you better traction while turning or stopping on cold pavement. Check your tire pressure weekly. Driving on underinflated tires can cause them to wear down prematurely and lose traction on icy or slippery surfaces. Your tires lose a pound of pressure with every 10-degree drop in temperature. Always keep your fuel tank half full. During winter weather, it's important to keep at least half a tank of fuel in the vehicle in the event of an emergency or if you get stuck in the snow and wait for assistance. Pack an emergency to-go kit. We encourage you to keep an extra coat, blanket, boots, gloves, and a hat inside your vehicle when the temperatures drop. We also recommend keeping a flashlight, first aid kit, and emergency contact information or AAA handy. Protect your windshield wipers. If you park outdoors, leave the wipers in the raised position to prevent them from freezing to the windshield. Never use your wiper blades to remove ice, snow, or frost from the windshield; use an ice scraper instead.

Plus, these need to be drained periodically. Feel for those cool drafts Even the smallest of drafts can bring a shiver to you during the winter months. It’s important to make sure all exterior doors, windows, and other openings are totally sealed. Even think about investing indoor cushions that are placed at the bottom of the door to keep cool air from coming into your home. Clean your fireplace While temperatures will be dropping, you’ll be firing up that fireplace and it’s very important to have a professional clean out your fireplace and chimney. A dirty chimney and fireplace can lead to issues that can be disastrous. Check on your roofing Unless you previously know you have a leaky roof, it’s time to ensure that your roof is in proper working condition. We encourage hiring a professional to come take a look and take care of any issues you may have. Put seasonal items away for the winter While getting ready for the holidays, it’s time to put all of your pool floats, lawn furniture and more away for the season.
