September is Back-to-School Month, which means that we will see an influx of teenage drivers back on the road, heading to and from school with their friends. While it is exciting for them, it is also scary. Within their first month of driving, almost 50 percent of teens are involved in an accident, and after three years, that percentage climbs up to 89 percent. Two of these teens were John and James Hubert, who were killed in an accident back in January 2008. Their father, Doug Herbert, wanted to prevent this tragedy from happening to others. Shortly after, he founded the B.R.A.K.E.S. Teen Proactive Driving Program. B.R.A.K.E.S., which stands for “Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe,” offers teenage drivers a chance to practice and test their reactions to on-road situations in a controlled environment. Some of the tests include Car Control and Recovery, Accident Avoidance, Distracted Driving, Drop Wheel Recovery, and Panic Braking. Kia Motors, who deeply cares about the safety of everyone on the road, provided B.R.A.K.E.S. with 44 vehicles to help this program become a nationwide success.

Last month, AutoPacific held their annual Ideal Vehicle Awards (IVA), which surveys of 65,000 new 2015 and 2016 vehicle owners after their first 90 days of ownership. The survey has 15 categories, in which they ask new vehicle owners what they would change about their vehicles. Some of the categories include power and acceleration, interior storage, safety features, ride and handling, and technology. This vehicle that receives the least amount of change requests in each segment were named the winners of the IVA.

This year, the 2016 Kia Optima and 2016 Kia Sedona were named winners in the midsize car and minivan categories. This is an exciting time for both vehicles, as they were named winners in the 2016 AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards earlier this summer.

“We are proud that our vehicles have exceeded the expectations of our customers and that AutoPacific has recognized the Optima and Sedona for the second time this summer with the Ideal Vehicle Awards,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning, Kia Motors America. “Kia is constantly evolving and finding ways to suit the needs and wants of our customers.
