According to Cars.com, the 2017 Kia Sportage is at the top of its segment thanks to its advanced technologies, premium features, and restyled look. The updated look and feel of this model was recently recognized in the Cars.com 2017 Best Of Awards where it was named the “Best New Compact SUV” of 2017.

Cars.com hosts their annual Best Of Awards at the North American International Auto Show each year. In order to be eligible for a Best Of Award, a vehicle must be all-new or fully redesigned for the current model year and the winners in each category represent a vehicle that scores high in each of the Car.com main criteria including innovation, value, and quality. The six categories included in the awards are Best of 2017, Best Pickup Truck of 2017, Eco-Friendly Car of the Year, Family Car of the Year, Luxury Car of the Year and Play Car of the Year.

Last year was an incredibly successful and rewarding one for Kia Motors America. Throughout 2016, the brand was the recipient of more third-party awards than ever before with high praises for reliability and quality. In addition to the high amount of recognition, the brand also achieved its best annual sales record ever with total sales in 2016 reaching 647,598 units which is 3.5 percent higher than 2015. The brand even had four of their vehicles (Soul, Optima, Sorento and Forte) each achieved annual sales of more than 100,000 units each for the first time ever. They really did end on a high note with their best-ever fourth quarter sales and best-ever December sales with 54,353 units sold for the month.

Power and Consumer Reports to many other respected third-party experts, Kia has never been more highly rated for quality and dependability, and customers flocked to our showrooms in December and throughout 2016 to experience all that the ‘New Kia’ offers,” said Michael Sprague, chief operating officer and EVP, KMA. “No auto brand has experienced greater growth in the U.S. over the last 20-plus years, and Kia will be on the offensive once again in 2017 with several new products in the pipeline that will continue challenging everything people think they know about this brand, starting with a major world debut next week in Detroit.”
December Sales Results:
- Sales of the Cadenza came to 428 units
- Sales of the Forte increased 39.7 percent to reach 7,560 units
- Sales of the Optima came to 12,572 units
- Sales of the Rio increased 27.3 percent to reach 1,269 units
- Sales of the Sedona came to 2,028 units
- Sales of the Sorento came to 11,782 units
- Sales of the Soul increased 2.2 percent to reach 12,427
- Sales of the Sportage increased 2.7 percent to reach 6,207 units

Kia Achieved Guinness World Record® With 2017 Niro
Niro Guinness World Record
The 2017 Kia Niro is now an official world record holder after being presented with a Guinness World Record® title for the lowest fuel consumption of a hybrid car after driving across the USA from coast to coast. Co-Drivers Wayne Gerdes of Carlsbad, California and Robert Winger of Williamsburg, Virginia drove the Niro 3,715.4 miles from Los Angeles City Hall all the way to New York City Hall. Throughout the entire trip, they used only 48.5 gallons of gas which comes out to 4.1 tanks and achieved the record-setting MPG of 76.6!
“We’re extremely pleased with the Niro’s record-breaking performance,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning KMA. “We set out to build a vehicle that offers real-world utility, great looks and fantastic mileage, and setting the Guinness World Record® title confirms our achievement.”

Four Kia Models Earn IIHS Top Safety Pick Ratings
The Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ awards are the highest safety recognitions that a vehicle can receive from the Insurance Institute for Highway safety. For the 2017 model year, the IIHS upped their standards making the achievement of these prestigious ratings that much more selective. Previously, vehicles just had to earn a “good” rating in all of the IIHS crash tests in order to earn the Top Safety Pick rating but now they must do that AND offer an optional front crash prevention system that earns a rating of “advanced” or better.
The latter criteria used to be what was required for the Pick+ status but now a vehicle must achieve all of those standards AND earn at least an “acceptable” rating for their headlight based on IIHS standards for visibility.
Even with the stricter guidelines Kia can proudly say that four different models from their lineup earned a Top Safety Pick rating for 2017. These models include the 2017 Kia Sorento, Optima, Sportage, and Sedona and you can take a test drive in any one of these models right here at King Kia.

Kia Brings Back Holidays On Us Campaign For 2016
In honor of the holiday season, Kia Motors America is once again teaming up with DonorsChoose.org in order to help provide schools with some much-needed resources through their “Holiday’s on Us” event. This event has raised more than $7.5 million to benefit over 1.5 million students in the past few years since it was first started back in 2012. This year’s campaign is expected to raise funds for 200 classroom projects. The long-term goal for the Holiday’s on Us campaign is to provide 100 percent funding to all high-needs schools throughout the U.S. by the year 2020.
“Kia is dedicated to providing teachers with the classroom resources they need to build a better future for students,” said Michael Sprague, chief operating officer and EVP, KMA. “We encourage people to join Kia in making a difference by visiting DonorsChoose.org to learn how they can make an impact for as little as $1.
DornorChoose.org was first started by Charles Best in 2000 and since then over 2.3 million citizen philanthropists have used the platform to raise funds to provide 20 million students with the resources that they need.
