When you first get your license, you automatically go from drool to cool within the first minute the driving instructor tells you that you passed.

I remember I called, yes called, all my friends and told them. For us, it used to be a sign of being older, more mature, and our road trips. I was so happy that day, but I was still nervous to drive. I remember my parents begging me to get out there and drive, especially because I had a job to drive to. I was so cautious and would check every mirror, every stop sign, and every street corner. I was so nervous about every little thing, that people would beep and go around me for how slow I would drive.

Flash forward to years down the line when my brother goes for his driving test. Mind you, this kid did not practice as much as I did, he wasn’t scared like I was, and his first thought about getting his license is that now he can drive girls home. *Insert eye rolls* You can pretty much say he was born ready to drive. The one thing that we both had nerves about doing for our road test was the awful parallel parking.

So unless you live in the city, why is it needed to learn how to parallel park? I guess it is something you should learn just in case you have to do it at some point in life. My brother learned how to parallel park overnight, no I am so serious. Passed his test no issue. Remember when I said I had to call my friends to let them know? My brother instead Snapchatted all his guys. That same day he decided that he would drive everyone anywhere they needed to go, me? Heck no, I was crying that I had my license. I wanted to be driven everywhere.

My point to this is that most “teens,” “kids” whatever you want to call them, are fearless nowadays. They expect that car at 16. When I was growing up, the only reason I got a car at 16 was that I had a job. Although my brother does have a job, his friends do not. The purpose of getting a car or a license is to show off to your friends, or in my brother’s case, girls.

The way he drives is great. One arm out, the other on the steering wheel. I laughed one night asking him why he does that. His answer was that it was comfortable, but I knew the real reason. He’s 16 and ready to flirt with girls, he thinks it’s cool.

I laugh every so often thinking of all that is different about my brother and I getting our license. I was the chicken, he is the one already planning to drive cross-country.

Driving isn’t my forte. I can’t drive well, I just can’t. I speed when I shouldn’t, I go too slow when I can’t, and I can never figure out which to do when stuck in a rain storm.

I know you do too, everyone does at some point. You always hear of people that can’t drive in the rain or in the snow, well that’s me. I cry whenever the weather doesn’t cooperate.

I remember this one time while driving, it just started down pouring. I mean the sky opened up and down came everything-everything. I remember that I could not see a single thing. I pulled over hoping that the rain would stop and I could get home somehow.

As I’m pulled over, I realized that most people have their flashing hazards on. I always thought that you put those on for accidents or when you’re stopping for an emergency. I kept wondering if I should call the police or something but I realized that more than five cars going the same direction as me had these lights on.

Now, I’m not by any means a pro driver, I clearly stated I stink at driving so I have no idea why they would have them on.

The rain seemed to have calmed down a tad, so I thought it was clear to start driving again. I still saw those hazards being used.

When I got home the first thing I did was research. Why in the world do people use hazards in rain storms?

Hazards are known to be used when you are warning the people behind you that you will be going extra slow. Though hazards can be an emergency, it also indicates to the people behind you that they can pass you if they want because you will be taking your time to get where you need to be.

Without your hazards, you could cause a big accident because having them on says that you are going extra slow so when people think you are going one-speed limit instead you are going slower, you might be in their way and they can’t stop that quick.

Be sure to have your hazards on when you are going extra slow and need to warn the people around you, but mostly those behind you.

Soul Searching

Jul 13, 2017

The hippest car right now is the Kia Soul. So when it was time for me to get my first car, I knew exactly what I was going for.

I needed something not too big, not too small that fit all my friends and our shopping bags, something with stand out colors, but good on gas, and it must have a smooth ride.

My first time test driving, I literally drooled. I have never seen a car that fit me and my lifestyle more perfectly. Affordable but also high class. I first became a fan of the Kia Soul when their commercials came on with the dancing hamsters. They were a hit! This vehicle adds so much personality to the mix. The sunroof is great for a girls trip to the beach. That’s what we plan on doing the first week I get this baby!

It comes with cool features like LED headlights which I need at night. Comfortable seats are also great for long rides, ventilated seats let me be hot or cold whenever! Keeping my bum warm in the winter and cool in the summer is what everyone wants! It also has this cool feature that changes the lights in the vehicle with your music. I know, I know! It’s like a dance party in your car, a safe one, that you don’t dance while driving-  you get it!

This one is for the parents out there, the Kia Soul comes with many safety features to always keep everyone in the vehicle safe. Some safety features include airbags, no you don’t get it, there are so many airbags in the Soul, even side ones! It comes with brake assist in case I need a little extra help stopping, hill-start assist control, traction control, and vehicle stability management to help with steering.

I know you are probably wondering where I found all this information out, easy! I fell in love with the car. Also, the staff at King Kia knows their vehicles, like, really knows them. We got an amazing deal which pleased Mom and Dad and I got my very own Soul! The girls were ready for the car rides as well as the shopping trips! Stop in to see my new friends at King Kia today and check out the Kia Soul!

Weird question, but, what would you bring in your car if you had to live in it? Yeah, I feel the stares right now.

Ever watch the show where people want to downsize therefore buy a small house that is portable? At first, I wondered why would people do this? Why would they give up so much room to live in this box-like house? I get it, less expensive, but does wanting to travel so much take priority?

While trying to understand this, ever thought about living in your vehicle? Depending on what vehicle you have, it might be the same size if not close to the size of these tiny houses. What do people actually bring into those things? Can their dresser fit at all in that bedroom? Do some of those houses even have a bedroom?

As I asked some people what they would want to bring with them if they had to live out of their vehicle. Food and drinks do not count! Here is what some said:

  • Extra clothes – Being dirty and smelly won’t be great, so, pack that change of clothes!

  • Pillows and one blanket- Sleeping might be an issue if you don’t have a pillow and a blanket depending on the weather

  • Shoes!  If you don’t bring shoes, you might step on regret

  • Toothpaste and Toothbrush- No makeup bag needed, but at least something to make you smell somewhat decent

  • Deodorant- Again, be a lot fresher than you would be without it

  • A Mattress- Depending on your vehicle, I guess you could add this to the list

  • Glass or hard plastic water bottles- Bring these in case you need water and are traveling (saves money too)

Although, depending on the person you might decide to bring other materials. Let us know what you would not go one single second without even if you were living in your car!

Accidents Happen

Jun 30, 2017

Getting into an accident is probably the last thing that people expect to get into when stepping foot in their cars. I’m sure most people do not plan on getting hit or hit someone else. Most people have no idea how to even handle an accident when it does happen.

Most questions asked are “What do I need?” “What do I hand the cop?” “What is my title?” Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.

Here is a checklist of some of the things you will need when you are in a car accident:

  • Your local police number- no that is not 911

  • Your title- usually half a piece of paper, most of the time kept in the glovebox

  • Your registration- small piece of paper that is kept with your title in the glovebox

  • Your license- hopefully, this is on you at all times

  • Pictures of the vehicle(s)

  • License plate numbers if need be

  • Your insurance carrier

  • The other person involved insurance carrier

  • The person involved address, full name, etc.

Although these are not always the only things that you will when or if you get in an accident. The people involved will also need the same things so the police can write their report. You should always carry things documents with you when driving since you will always need these things no matter if you get into an accident or even get pulled over. It is always better to be safe than sorry!

Having patience during this time is also a must. So many attitudes arise when thinking of all that needs to be done on a vehicle, who pays who, where to bring your vehicle, etc.

Do You Hear Me?

Jun 23, 2017

Do You Hear Me?

You ever hear your neighbors drive by with their music so loud, you don’t know how they enjoy that sound? Or those who drive around town playing their favorite tunes but because they turn the volume too high, the sound just aches? Jeez is that what I sound like?

I love listening to my music crazy loud when it’s a good song, I’m sure we all do. I love to feel the beat whenever I drive. I start to hear that static sound and I lower it partially, but in reality, it is still very much loud.

I never noticed how bad it would be for my car or my stereo. I just thought it sounded bad, but what’s the harm?

Remember when everyone would say that listening to music through your headphones extremely loud would make you deaf in the future? They were NOT kidding!

Listening to music so loud blows out your eardrums and over the years, they wear out. Imagine this, you’re at your lake house and your dock has been rubbing against this boulder for months, even years, the rock and the dock would deteriorate over time.

Your car speakers work the same way! The louder the music is, the more the speakers wear out until they blow!

Try not having music to listen to on your road trips! Couldn’t imagine right? That would be one long, quiet, and unrealistic car ride.

Taking care of your speakers is essential. Just make sure you do not blast your music. When plugging your AUX cord in, make sure that the volume from your phone or device is turned lower than your car volume. If both devices are too loud, you will hear that static sound, almost like a signal lost sound. When your device is turned louder than your car speakers, you still hear a little bit of that static.

When speakers are blown, it is incredibly difficult to “fix” the speakers, therefore the only option is to buy new speakers, which aren’t cheap.

Save that green for hearing your favorite artists in concert, not in your blown speaker in your car.

Everyone Trusts Kelley- Kelley Blue Book That Is

Since beach season is almost here, let’s throw it back to your family vacations. The ones where you’d squeeze in the back of your parent’s old hunk of junk, take your shovels, pails, and beach towels. OH! Don’t forget, different shoes or you’d get in trouble for dragging sand in the car, (they forgot that the beach has sand), extra towels, and of course what you waited for that whole morning, those sandwiches that only tasted great at the beach.

Of course, squeezing in the back sounded like fun UNTIL, Bill won’t move over, Sharon keeps dancing, and baby Loraine won’t stop crying, oh wait and then there’s you. You have no room to do anything, not even breathe. Yeah, those were the days. Although the vacation was always a blast, the ride to and from was the struggle. Who wouldn’t get in, who would run around, who was too sweaty to even get in. Oh, the hassle.

Jumping to 2017, the problem is always there. When will someone come up with a way for families to fit comfortably? How about a way to fit all our bags as well so we don’t need to pack them on our laps. Hold onto your seatbelt and tell the kids to get ready to shift over because Kia came up with the 2017 Kia Sportage!

The 2017 Kia Sportage has been named one of the 12 best vehicles for families by Kelley Blue Book! The Kia Sportage has much cargo area for storage so you can store more of your favorite vacation bags with all the food, the clothes and extra unnecessary, but needed to come on the trip things.

Kelley says, “It (the 2017 Kia Sportage), offers a load floor with multiple levels, allowing you to have either a flat load floor with the seatbacks down for long objects, or a deeper well to keep smaller objects.”

The Kia Sportage also offers many safety features to keep your passengers and you safe no matter where the road takes you! With features like Backup Camera, Multiple Airbags, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Autonomous Braking with Pedestrian Detection, and Lane Departure Warning, you’ll be worry free on the road. Two engine choices for a better, smoother, more powerful ride; 2.4L 4-cylinder with 181 horsepower or a 2.0L turbocharged engine with 240 horsepower. What more could you need right?

The 2017 Kia Sportage offers space, comfort, reliability, and safety all in one! With a great competitive price! Organize More, Less Headaches

Driving with kids in the back seat can be a hassle. Toys, shoes, books, sippy cups all on the ground can cause your vehicle to look like a hurricane hit it. It’s not impossible to fix this!

Organize toys and books behind the driver’s seat and passenger’s seat with a backseat organizer. Fill the pockets with activities that the kids will love to work on during the car ride and place those where they can reach. So they can have fun and you can focus on driving!
Another hack is using a binder laptop holder and tie it to the back of a seat which will turn into a table for the kids where they can draw, write, and create masterpieces. When they are all finished or the car ride has ended, they can zip up their imagination!
Lastly, to protect your car from most food spills. Placing food and drinks in a shower caddy comes in handy! The caddy will sit on the child’s lap and food stays in place!

There we have it! Three hacks to make your life (and your vehicle) a little less messy!
