King Kia knows that it feels like all you do everyday is go, go, go. But, what happens when you need to stop? When was the last time you had your braking system checked? Brakes wear out gradually, so you may not notice if your ability to slow or stop begins to decline. Listed below are a few indicators that it’s time to give you brakes a break and get them checked out. And you can do so with King Kia’s diligently trained experts! We offer top notch car and truck brake repair at affordable prices at our facility here in Gaithersburg, MD. Your safety is our first priority. Signs That You Need New Brakes:

  • You hear a squealing noise when you brake.
    • Most brake pads are manufactured with wear indicators. These metal tabs along the top of your brake pads will scrape against the rotors when the pads are worn down to a dangerous level; creating an awful noise as a result.
  • Your car is taking longer to come to a complete stop.
    • When your brake pads make contact with your rotor for extended periods of time, both components heat up and become worn, decreasing their ability to generate the friction needed to bring your car to a full stop in a timely manner.
  • Your car is pulling to one side when you brake.
    • This could indicate that the brake pads on one side of your vehicle are more worn out than the pads on the other side. This will cause your car to pull in one direction when stopping and puts stress on your steering rack.
  • Your brakes vibrate or stutter when pressed.
    • This issue arises when the binding resin holding the brake pads together is smeared across the rotor due to excessive heat and pad wear down. It is known as “glazing” and can be very dangerous if unchecked.

Finding the perfect gift for your significant other can be difficult, and if you don’t have the budget to buy them a new Kia, we understand. But we want to help make sure that you treat your loved one right, regardless of your budget. That’s why this week we have a couple of ideas that are sure to make your significant other smile and have you getting tons of brownie points for it!

If you’re not about buying everything heart-shaped, then stick to something that is more sentimental than tangible. We have a couple of automotive displays of affection that are sure to show your significant other just how much you care about them without breaking the bank this Valentine’s day!

Sweet Things To Do For Your Boo:

  • Clean of their ride: It’s February and in most of the country we are experiencing snowfall. Get up a little earlier and take a few minutes to wipe the snow off their vehicle’s windshield, mirrors, and the rest of their vehicle! Don’t forget to start the car so they can get into a toasty vehicle!

Have Their Coffee Ready To Go:

  • It’s no secret the world runs on coffee, so take a second to get your significant other’s coffee ready and place it in the cupholder so that when they get in their toast vehicle their coffee, tea, cocoa, etc. is ready for them and they can take on the day! Maybe even stash some chocolate hearts in the cupholder for a sweet treat later in the day!

Do Some Simple Preparation:

  • If you’re on top of your gift-giving this year, order a small clip-on vase that attaches to the vehicle’s dashboard or clips onto the vehicle’s vents. Place a rose inside the vase or leave a valentine or two for a really cute surprise!

Fill Up Their Gas Tank:

  • A full tank = a full heart. Do something as simple as filling up their gas tank and put a smile on your loved one’s face when they slip behind the wheel!

Pump Their Ride:

  • If you have a couple of extra bucks and you’re willing to spend it on your loved one, bring their ride for a professional cleaning and interior detailing or if you live in a warm place and the weather is nice, do a little DIY to show just how much you care!

Make Them A Mixtape:

  • Make them a personalized playlist of love songs or songs that mean a lot to you both as a couple. This will be perfect for the commute to and from work and will really hit the soft spot!

It’s a new year, which means it’s time to take steps toward better choices. A great way to keep your resolutions to start with small things. One simple resolution you can start with is taking better care of your Kia! We know life gets crazy and even though it feels like you just cleaned out your car last week, it’s actually been months and it’s a mess! It’s okay, it happens to the best of us. Plus, keeping your car organized isn’t just important for space, but for your safety too. That’s why this week we are here to help you get your car sparkly clean and organized in only four simple steps! So take a peek at our helpful hints below, and if you’re just not feeling like you want to maintain your vehicle, we totally understand and want to help! Just check out our maintenance packages for your Kia and schedule an appointment today! Or, if you’re ready to upgrade your ride, browse our available inventory and schedule a test drive for your Kia today at King Kia!

Step 1: Sort and clean

  • Take everything out of the car, including car seats, music, and miscellaneous items stored in the glove box and door pockets.
  • Don’t forget the trunk and cargo area!
  •  Organize the rest of the items into three piles: stuff you use all the time, things you use occasionally, and items you might need in an emergency. Whatever doesn’t fall into these categories should be stored in your home or garage.

Step 2: Analyze

  • Ask yourself, “How do I use my car?”
  • Are you the taxi driver? Maybe you’re a parent with two toddlers in car seats or a salesman who travels with a trunkload of samples. Whatever it is, figure it out.

Step 3: Prioritize

  • Depending upon your needs, go through your three piles and prioritize the most important items in each group
  • And just like seasonal clothes in a closet, many items such as ice scrapers and emergency kits should be stored back in your vehicle

Step 4: Contain your needs

  • Loose objects in the car lead to disorganization and mess. In the event of a sudden stop or a crash, they can also damage your car or, worse, injure your occupants. Get yourself a good organizer to keep all of your items concise and easy to access.

  1. Check and change the oil:
    • Regular oil and filter changes will keep your engine’s life running longer
    • Nothing will destroy an engine faster than neglecting oil-level checks or fresh-oil changes.
  2. Flush and change the cooling system:
    • A 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water will keep the cooling system in good shape and prevent corrosion and deposits from building up inside the cooling system.
    • Be sure to change your coolant once a year
  3. Change out transmission and differential oils:
    • While not requiring frequent service, these fluids must be changed according to service intervals.
    • Before topping off fluids, be sure that it is the proper oil and transmission fluid needed for your vehicle
  4. Clean it up:
    • Washing your vehicle is obvious, but when it comes to cleaning the vehicle’s underside many of us fall short.
    • Everything the vehicle ran over can also get stuck to the underside, hosing off winter salt and road grime is a good idea to keep from corrosion or build up.
  5. Grease it up:
    • Everything with moving parts needs grease to survive, make sure the proper vehicle parts remain greased as needed
  6. Wax on, wax off:
    • Nothing keeps your vehicle’s paint looking good and protected like a coat of quality wax.
    • Wax should be applied every six months.
  7. Keep Driveline components Lubricated:
    • Driveline components such as u-joints also require regular lubrication
  8. Protect it from harmful UVs:
    • Protect the interior plastic by parking the vehicle in the shade, harmful UVs can deteriorate the plastic
    • On sunny days, be sure to use a window deflector screen
    •  Applying a UV protectant to prevent the plastic and vinyl from drying out can also help
  9. Keep your wheels fresh to death:
    • Inspect, clean, and repack wheel bearings with wheel bearing grease according to service intervals
    • This is a pretty cheap task so you won’t break the bank doing so.
  10. Top off your brake fluid:
    • Brake fluid   moisture, which causes components to corrode and fail
    • Replacing the brake fluid and bleed system once a year will keep from damage happening
    • Brake fluid is pretty cheap

Are you ever concerned about your battery calling it quits on you? Sure, we all are as vehicle owners but there are a few things you can do to avoid a dead battery, what to do if this happens or what may have caused it. So check it out below and be sure to service your vehicle with our team to avoid a dead battery this holiday season!

How To Avoid A Dead Battery –

  • The easiest way to put your mind to ease that you won’t be in this situation is to service your battery regularly to make sure there are no issues. This is exceptionally important when temperatures start to drop drastically or after driving long miles. A technician can test your battery to ensure that it’s still in a good, healthy condition.
  • Be smart with your vehicle. Don’t use certain features like the radio, chargers, or lights for long periods of time without starting your vehicle. This puts a lot of stress on your battery and can end up killing your battery altogether.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures if you can. We encourage you to park your vehicle in your garage (if you have one). This can cut back on exposure to extreme temperatures and won’t be the mortality of your battery.

What Caused My Dead Battery –

  • Leaving headlights, interior lights, flashers, or the radio on when your vehicle isn’t running
  • Using the air conditioner or heat when your vehicle isn’t running
  • Low air temperatures, causing your battery to freeze
  • Lack of battery maintenance
  • Not starting your vehicle for long periods of time
  •  Failure of voltage regulator within the alternator

What To Do When Your Battery Dies –

  • Of course, the first answer is to jump-start your vehicle. It’s always a great idea to keep a set of jumper cables inside your vehicle for emergencies whether that is you or another driver. Also, keep in mind that you should never try to jump-start a battery if it is cracked or visibly leaking acid.
  • Roadside assistance is a beautiful thing and is almost necessary. If you do find yourself stranded and in need of help, be sure to call roadside assistance for help. This is especially helpful if you are on the highway and can’t flag down another driver. Plus, it’s safer to stay in your vehicle while a trained professional addresses the situation.
